The Power of Strong Networks in Compliance Consulting

I’m happy to admit, when I first set up my business I did not have the strongest of plans. I was content to rely on word of mouth, taking on a fairly random selection of work, and to enjoy the variety and flexibility. However, as time has gone on, I have got a bit more thoughtful about what I am doing and the business I am building. After all, as senior leader in large organisations I was required to be strategic, so why not apply this to my own business?

So the strategy is now there, but as for executing on this strategy a bit more was needed. It’s all very well saying that I would like to focus on particular areas, but how would I identify and chase down these opportunities? Also, consulting can be a lonely business. So networking is key.

This is where Compliance Circle comes in. I was delighted to be admitted to the Circle, after a challenging and stimulating admissions process. It provides a platform for senior consultants, only 30 at present, who are all driven by building businesses that provide high quality services.

The focus that Compliance Circle has on ethics and doing the right thing is particularly important to me. Too many consultants that I have met have little focus on this, don’t respect the client, will say anything to win the work and will charge as much as possible. That’s not something I am interested in. With Compliance Circle there is a network of strong individual contributors, who I can work with and who are able to take on work that is beyond my scope. Conversely, referrals come through to me that are most suited to my skills and experience.

Importantly also it’s a great place to get ideas about how to best develop my business, with other members willing to share experiences and perspectives.

So it’s win-win-win. Win for me, as I can access the skills and knowledge of some high calibre professionals; win for other members who get the same; and win for the clients who get the best possible service.

What’s not to like!
